From time to time, we get the chance to see thermal cameras being used for creative works. Recently, we had the chance to support the development of an interactive art installation, by artist Taylah Hasaballah. This piece was commissioned for the Mode music and arts Festival, over in Sydney, October 2024.
“Heat Loss is an interactive installation combining time-lapse video, thermal sensors and real-time visualisation software.”
In this piece, festival-goers presence and motion affected the visualisations in real time, allowing them to participate in the artwork itself.
For this piece, we assisted with selection and procurement of multiple custom high-resolution USB thermal camera modules within a short timeframe. In particular, attention was required to ensure that the correct thermal lens was selected to ensure wide coverage of the entire interactive installation space. We also provided additional thermal cameras for rental during the development of the piece.
The creative aspects of the work were lead by Taylah Hasaballah, in collaboration with digital artist Tristan Jensen, and with sound engineering by Red Silk.
